Has anyone heard about this new game called "Haze"? It looks to be a Halo rip-off to the core. So far, I've heard it's going to be a PS3 exclusive, so I guess Haze will be the PS3 Halo until the next Killzone (Halo Killer) comes along.

You know what has everyone excited the most though? Playing dead. Yup, playing dead in multiplayer. Let me go get that $600 console and $60 game to have a Halo clone where I can play dead. At least the last stand in COD4 has you pulling out a pistol before you bite the dust. Hell, if people want to "play dead" I'll just go around shooting corpses. Problem solved. In the COD4 beta, I'll put a few extra rounds in the poor soul so they don't achieve a vengeful kill right before they croak.

If you really want a good laugh at how crappy this game and it's story is turning out, go check out the videos at the official site

I think Haze is pretty.

**If you guys could point me towards the first vehicles in a FPS, I'd appreciate it.**Sure thing.November 1998: Tribes. (cycles, tanks, jets, jet packs, bombers) April 2001: Tribes 2. (cycles, tanks, jets, jet packs, bombers)May 2001: Red Faction (hovercraft, tanks, robots)August 2001: Operation Flashpoint. (realistic jets, tanks, jeeps, helicopters, and a dozen more)All except Red Faction had more and better vehicles as well. Red Faction had totally destructible environments as well though; something Halo hasn't been able to do yet.

In all honesty, there isn't much difference in FPS anymore. No matter what new feature you add (bubble shields, overdose, etc.) The core gameplay hasn't changed much. I don't remember Unreal having vehicles, but I may be mistaken. The first FPS I've ever experienced it on was Halo. Now, if I wanted to paint with a broad stroke, I'd call them all Quake clones. I could go even broader and say Doom, but Quake is where we had true 3D.

I think Carbon put it best so far, Halo is successful, just look at the number of people playing and the sales Halo 3 has had. Why is that? I know it's not just the gameplay but also the multiplayer features and all the new stuff, but the core gameplay hasn't' changed. I see Haze's core gameplay to be extremely similar to Halo's.

There isn't much that is unique and revolutionary in any FPS anymore, really. I'm not saying Halo has brought that to the table, but what they've done was refine it, and set the bar. At least, that's my opinion.

I mean, I would have labeled Half-Life as a Quake clone back in the day, but with the way  modded games came about, no one ever played the Half-Life mutliplayer that came with the game, we were playing TFC, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat and many others. You couldn't do that on Quake.

I just don't see what is really setting Haze so different from Halo. The overdose, weapon stealing is in the same lines as the new power ups in Halo 3. It's no different than Quad Damage from Quake or Berserker from Doom.

If you guys could point me towards the first vehicles in a FPS, I'd appreciate it. Like I said, I believe it is Halo since I don't remember doing it in Unreal. I do remember having vehicles in Tribes 2, but they released the same year so it's hard to pin it on either or. On consoles, Halo has taken all the features from the FPS library and set a standard that I think PS3 is trying to achieve. They didn't do it with Killzone, so they are trying with Haze, at least, that's my opinion.

The new splitters is coming right after Haze from what I hear. I also think Haze is a timed exclusive. Work has already been done on an X360 version and they put it away for now. They won't throw that away.

I think what others will want to "pull off" is the sales of Halo, not any one thing in the game. There's nothing in Halo at all that's not been in 15 games already. The bar is set for sales. Game play wise, Halo 3 was beat by Half Life 2 years before it even came out.

In all fairness, some (Emphasis on some) FPS games from now on will be considered Halo clones simply because game developers will look to emulate what Bungie pulled off with Halo. They set the standard and now everyone takes a little bit of it and runs with it. Of course there will be innovation and new fresh ideas/games, but when a big game like Halo comes along, other developers will look to find what made it successful and use that in their game.

Haze might be a good game and I'm sad to see it go PS3 exclusive, but when Sony shells out money it's hard to say no. Regardless, this is Free Radical and they can do no wrong in my eyes... As long as they make atleast one iteration of TimeSplitters for each console I buy in the future... Then we're set.
