From Gizmodo (link (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/games/rock-band-review-roundup-verdict-great-hardware-multiplayer-324477.php)):

Rock Band Review Roundup (Verdict: Great Hardware, Multiplayer)

Ars, OXM, IGN review Rock Band, and find the hardware to be solid enough, the songs righteous, and Guitar Hero soundly trumped in multiplayer. IGN gives it a 9.4/10. OXM gave em a 9.5/10. Glad they both passed over the played out 11/10 verdict.

Fav of reviewers is The World Tour, which penalizes your band's career when one of your musically-challenged friends drops his drumsticks. Single player is not as great as it is in Guitar Hero, because, hey, very few of us are capable of running a one man band (http://gnr.nu/fun/oneManBandAxl.jpg) like Axl here. Surprisingly, there are no mentions of online problems, PS3 or XBox Live. Looks like you're safe to buy, if you can find a copy this late in the game. My two cents: Those drums are going to tart up your livingroom something awful. Good luck my man. RB is going to be very rare this holiday. :vb_cussing:

I have mine but won't get to play until Thursday.

If enough people get Rock Band, we should start up our own Band on Live. I'd get it if I could afford it. I'd be going with the drums since everyone and their mother goes for guitar and bass. >.>

Fry's had a few last night when I went to pick up some BR movies - VERY tempting - but I didn't do it...

Okay so I didn't do it last week but I just got back from Wal-Mart with it tonight. I never should have let my wife play it at Best Buy - at least not three days before her birthday ;)

Question - does anyone know off-hand if the guitar that comes with this also works with Guitar Hero?

No. Activision won't let the Strat work with GH but the Explorer will work with Rockband. That's a good thing too cause just about every Strat is defective in either the strum bar or tilt sensor. Ugh. Mine included.

Rock band is great though! I sing and play guitar. Drums kinda sucked to me.

Yeah we enjoyed it quite a bit tonight as it's after 2 in the morning and we just stopped playing! Now for the hard part - where the heck am I going to put all of this stuff so it's out of the way lol

If it's the strum bar, it's easy to fix yourself. One of the screws holding the bar's microswitches in place has a habit of getting loose, and the button rotates away from the bar. turn it back, and tighten the screw down, and it should be fine.

Thanks man. Sadly it's my tilt sensor though. It won't activate half the time and most of the time it just randomly activates. I did my own whammy fix on GHII and prefer to do these things myself but I think the tilt might be beyond a simple adjust.

I like the Strat a LOT more so I'm eager to get it replaced.

Sounds like I better find a GH Explorer then for two reasons - first I've really gotten into playing Bass (I read there's no option for the Bass in solo mode - is that true????) and in case something happens to my strat.

I was so not going to buy this game but I'm glad I did. The deciding factor was that my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are in Guam (he's in the Navy) and they are getting Xbox Live sometime around Christmas along with this game so we can all play together.
